Firmness level H3: medium firm – and for whom?

H3 is the medium firmness level – not soft, not firm. In practice, it is best suited to people weighing between approximately 70 and 90 kilograms who predominantly sleep on their back or stomach. There, the mattress supports the lumbar spine without the body sinking in.

Those who are significantly lighter or sleep a lot on their side often find H3 too firm: the shoulder does not sink in deeply enough, and pressure remains on the shoulder and pelvis. This is not a fault of the mattress, but a question of suitability – and can usually be quickly resolved with a topper.

Feeling the springs? Three causes – and what helps

In a pocket spring mattress, the springs lie in fabric pockets and are covered by the comfort layer. Normally, you feel the surface, not the individual spring. If you can clearly feel them, it is usually due to one of these causes:

• The slatted bed base is too soft or has gaps that are too large. Then the springs push through – a firmer base helps here.
• The mattress is lying on a hard surface. On the floor or a board, the springs cannot flex.
• The weight and firmness level do not match. For very low weight, H3 is often too firm; for very high weight, too soft.

What helps in most cases: check the slatted bed base, let the mattress lie for a few nights (it needs time after being unrolled) and, if necessary, add a topper with 4–6 cm of foam.

Unpacked and smells? That's normal

The mattress is delivered vacuum-compressed. Immediately after unpacking, it therefore often smells slightly of foam, glue or packaging. This is normal and not a quality defect – the smell disappears as soon as the mattress can air out.

• Unroll the mattress and place it upright or flat by an open window – do not put a sheet on it yet.
• Air out for 24 to 72 hours, a little longer in cooler weather.
• Regularly ventilate the room instead of covering the smell with air freshener.
• Only then put on the fitted sheet and bed linen.

Durability: How to keep the mattress supportive for a long time

The 2.1-mm springs are robustly designed and have been tested in 30,000 roll tests. This speaks to their stability, but does not mean that the mattress never gives way: Every spring core mattress loses some tension over the years, especially where the same person always lies.

• Turn every three months – swap the head and foot ends.
• Suitable slatted bed base without sagging slats and with gaps that are not too large.
• Do not place on the floor – the mattress must be able to breathe from underneath.
• Keep the cover and comfort layer clean so that moisture does not penetrate the core.
